Hello again! I hope all is well with everyone. I can’t believe that there are only 2 weeks of school left! It’s crazy how time flies. As of this week, May 26th, I have graduated high school! Although our small organized ceremony isn’t until mid-June, I’m very proud of myself for making it this far academically as well as personally. Anywho, I’ll stop going off on a tangent and explain what I’ve done in the past week.
This week, I completely finished my second original song. It is entirely mixed and mastered to the best of my ability and knowledge of the technology. I’m quite proud of it and am happy with how it sounds. Since I don’t have the time to begin recording an entirely new song in the coming weeks, it has been suggested to me that I record a cover song. I have yet to choose which song I will cover, but in the meantime I have been specially requested to sing and play O Canada for the class of 2021 virtual graduation ceremony. With that being said, I’ve been spending quite some time rehearsing this week and I’m confident about my performance of the national anthem. Although a lot of good has come out of this week, as the school year truly begins to come to a close, it has become incredibly difficult to stay focused and motivated to get my remaining school work finished. As I keep stating in most of my previous blog posts, I just feel quite burnt out and really need a break. Otherwise, I’m once again proud of my progress thus far. That’s all I’ve got for this week. Until next time, stay safe and get vaccinated! --Angelina Robert, Musician & Artist

Hey! It’s me again. I can’t believe the end of the school year is approaching so quickly! Part of me can’t wait to be out of here, but the other part just can’t accept the fact that I’m almost an adult. Anywho, with only a couple more weeks left of this academic year, I’ll share with you what I’ve achieved in the past week as well as my goals for the following weeks of in person learning.
This week, I unfortunately became incredibly busy within my personal life and was unable to get any proper music recorded. It’s been difficult to push myself to record things when I don’t have access to professional equipment like I did when we were still doing in-person learning. As well, I think the idea of the school year being nearly done is really messing with my inspiration, and again, my motivation to work. On the bright side though, I was able to get the majority of my assignments in for all classes, practice playing guitar a bunch, and experiment with some DAWs such as SoundTrap and GarageBand. For the coming week as we return to learning inside the school, I have around 2.5 hours of studio time booked to crack down and finish the song that I was half way through when we shifted to online learning at the beginning of May. My goal is for that to be completed by the end of this week. With only 3 and a half weeks left of school, it doesn’t seem realistic to expect my entire EP to be completed and published along with album art and album details. The reason behind this is because studio time is very limited at this time of year. All of my younger peers in the class need time to complete their final projects too, not just myself. Thanks again for checking in on my progress. Until next week, stay safe and wear your masks. --Angelina Robert, Musician and Artist Welcome back to my blog! This past week has been interesting to say the least, but still not as productive as I would have liked. Although I was unable to do any proper song recording, I was able to experiment with vocal harmonies, recording a very short cover of Patti Page’s song ‘Old Cape Cod’. This is it here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/139S8D3NvlQpnJHc7859fyUGDWppEOgck/view?usp=sharing I used the GarageBand app on my IPhone because the audio interface I am borrowing from my school has been having some technical difficulties that still need to be fixed. The mixing on it isn’t very good because I couldn’t figure out how to properly use the automation tool. Toward the end of the week, my musical motivation began to return, allowing me to spend a good amount of time rehearsing over the weekend, right in line with my weekly goals that I have set. My goal for the next week is to continue rehearsing, preferably more than this week. As well, I’d like to complete some more recording, even if it’s just something small like the cover I mentioned earlier. Until next week, stay safe, and get vaccinated. --Angelina Robert, Musician and Artist. Good morning, afternoon, or evening! I cannot believe that we’re already a week into the month of May. Crazy how time flies. This week we have shifted into online learning, and will proceed to be online for the next 2 weeks. Because of this shift, it has become increasingly difficult to focus and obtain motivation to work toward completing my project, especially since there are only 28 school days left in this year. On top of that, with the state of the world right now, my mental health has been at a less than favourable state.
With that in mind, this week has been a huge struggle for me. I have been very distracted with my personal life, causing me to be very unproductive. It has frankly gotten to the point where I just want to be finished with school. I love this program with all of my heart and it's been an honour to be a part of it, but I would just like to graduate and have some freedom for once. I’m sure you know what I mean. Anywho, I have managed to get some rehearsing in, and I have just started a personal project that I am excited to work on. A friend of mine gifted me a cheap child sized guitar that was unplayable, so I am going to paint it. My inspiration for this piece is the classic painting “La Naissance De Venus” by Alexandre Cabanel. I hope it turns out how I want it to. That’s about all I have for you all this week. Hopefully next week I can get at least a shred of motivation to do what I’m most passionate about. Until then, stay safe. --Angelina Robert, Musician & Artist. Hello! I have returned once again. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe in these strange times. Speaking of the pandemic, this week was the last week of in-person learning, meaning that all schools are to shift to online classes as of Monday, May 3rd. With that being said, this past week was unfortunately the last week that I was able to work on my EP in our school’s recording studio. Fortunately enough, I may be able to still visit the school to work on this track depending on what our principal decides. As well, before the shift to online learning I was quite productive in the studio, getting about ¾ of the way through the recording process of my second song. Hopefully I will be able to return to the studio soon. If not during these 3 weeks of online school, I will do my best to record at my house for the time being with the resources I have access to.
What an upsetting way to nearly conclude my senior year of high school. Hopefully we will be able to return to in person learning for at least a week before the end of the school year. Until my next update, stay safe, and get vaccinated. --Angelina Robert, Musician & Artist Hello again! I have returned for yet another weekly update on my 3rd up-and-coming EP. This week, I was less productive than I would have hoped. On the bright side though, I have begun recording the second original track. So far, I have recorded the backing guitar track and a little bit of the vocals. I have a very good feeling that I am going to end up re-recording the guitar track because I am currently unhappy with how it sounds. Other than that though, I’ll disclose some other minor details about this song. It is around 130 beats per minute, with a jazzy sounding guitar melody played with a capo on fret 4. It is titled Je Veux Être Avec Toi, which translates from french to I Want To Be With You. Yet another love song, I know. I really need to be more creative when it comes to songwriting, but I typically only write about my life experiences and feelings. Regardless, this song is quite different from anything I’ve previously written. It is very jazzy which isn’t really my style, and on top of that I sing in french during the chorus. I’m excited for the track to be finished and to show it to the individual who it is written for/ about.
Progress wise, my timeline for finishing this project isn’t looking very good. There are only 36 school days left in my senior year, and I guarantee that quite a few of those days won’t be spent in the studio due to existing projects and scheduled rehearsal times for my younger peers. Despite that fact, I will be working as hard as I can to get this EP done and published so I can feel the satisfaction of releasing music one last time before the end of high school. Of course if covid doesn’t come and ruin everything again. Anywho, I will be back again next week with more updates on this project. I’m excited to see where the next few weeks take me. Fingers crossed this EP will be done before the end of the year. Stay safe, and take it easy. --Angelina Robert, Musician & Artist And so I have returned! I am back now with some updates of my progress within this final semester of the Cavalier Music Academy. Although we are already about half way through the semester, it seemed like a wonderful idea to share my ideas and current achievements with the collective.
As of mid March 2021, I have begun recording my 3rd studio EP. More details are to come, but I think I have decided on the name ‘Be Mine’, as it is the title of one of the songs I have yet to record. Another reason I chose this name is because I have already created the album art for the song Be Mine, seeing as it was originally written with the intention of it being a single, but I’ll save the digressions for another time. The EP will contain 3 of my own original songs. Aside from Be Mine, the other two songs are entitled Je Veux Être Avec Toi, and You & I. Thus far, I have completed the recording of You & I, and will soon be beginning the process of recording Je Vous Etre… I will likely be back in the studio this week. The recording process for You & I was a little bit bumpy though if I’m being honest. There were some technical difficulties with the software as well as the mixing board, but after those issues were resolved it went fairly smoothly. It took me a little while to get everything sounding good, even having to re-record the vocals because I didn’t like them. Overall, it took me about 2 or 3 weeks to completely finish recording and mastering the song. If I’ve learned anything from my experience in the studio these past couple of years, it’s that you always need to have multiple takes of every track, just in case you don’t like the way they sound. Believe me. Considering the amount of time it took me to complete Y&I, I feel as though I will be able to completely finish the EP by the end of the school year. The original plan was to create a new website and rebrand myself, as well as create merchandise to go along with the music, but I’m not sure I’ll have enough time to do it all. Although it sounds attainable in theory, with 2 other core classes in my schedule as well as the stress of graduation, I may not be able to complete it all. Don’t get me wrong, I am determined to complete this all and have my last few months in the WH Croxford recording studio be productive, but it is already the middle of April and realistically that is a lot to get done in a short amount of time. Anywho, I will be updating you all once a week until the middle of June about my progress with this EP and my other goals. It should be interesting to look back at my progress and see if these goals really were attainable, of course if Covid doesn’t ruin them first. Stay safe, stay healthy, and I’ll be back next week with more updates. Thanks for supporting me through this process. --Angelina Robert, Musician & Artist. Good morning, afternoon, or evening! I hope all is well with everyone. Starting as of February 1st, 2021, I have entered my final semester of high school, and my final semester of the Cavalier Music Academy. The end of the academic year is approaching quickly, which inevitably comes along with the introduction of my very last final project in my school career. Additionally, I was asked to write bi-weekly blog posts containing my progress within the course, as well as my thoughts & ideas regarding my final project. Now that you have the context of this post, let's get into the meat and potatoes of what I'll be writing about today.
To begin, I am super excited to be able to finally get back into the studio and record. Because of the pandemic, I was unable to produce an album that I had anticipated to release in June of 2020. I seriously hope that the schools stay open during this time so that I'm able to create a project that is high quality and as professional as possible, but I digress. Now I'll actually tell you what the project will be. With the approximately 4 months that I have in this semester, I will be writing and recording a 3 song EP with album art created by myself, along with merchandise, and a boat load of social media advertising. As the icing on the cake, I will be essentially rebranding myself to create an image that is more professional. The process, I'm hoping, will go like this; first, I will finish writing the 3 songs and finalize the track list for the EP. Second, I will begin recording the songs, which will be intertwined with marketing research. This, I'm hoping, will take about 1 to 2 months to complete. Third, after the recording is done, I will begin redesigning my website, artist pages, creating merchandise, and ultimately be perfecting my brand. Last but not least, I will be releasing the EP and merchandise during the middle of June 2021. Right now, we are collectively three days into the new semester. At the moment, I'm still easing into the new class and figuring out how to get into the groove of how independent this course is, but I assure you, the writing process will begin shortly. I'm currently just trying to get myself organized and ready to finally start working. I'm a little bit nervous to see if I'll be able to pull this off, but regardless I've got a pretty good gut feeling about this one. Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy, and have a great rest of your day. For more updates about myself, you cna follow my instagram at angelinaerobert or subscribe to my YouTube channel titled with my name, Angelina Robert. -Angelina Robert, musician and artist As an assignment for our communication technologies class, we were asked to look over an article about the ‘50 Most Iconic Brand Logos of All Time’ (https://www.complex.com/life/2013/03/the-50-most-iconic-brand-logos-of-all-time/). The majority of these brands sell products that we use in everyday life. Gasoline, tires, and vehicle brands are just a few examples. They are primarily brands that sell technology. I feel as though the majority of these logos are significant in the United States rather than Canada, as I was unable to recognize a few of them. I have noticed that almost all of these logos include the colours red, blue, yellow, or green.
At the close of this decade, in my opinion, many of these logos aren’t nearly as recognizable as the ones we know today. This is due to the fact that this list was constructed nearly six years ago. Some that I feel the list is lacking are: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, YouTube, and Netflix. Essentially just the most popular social media apps. I’m eager to see what the new decade will bring to us brand-wise. It should be an interesting time, and I’m quite optimistic for our future. Which logos do you feel belong on the list? Leave a comment below to let me know. --Angelina Robert, Musician & Artist When asked the question “to what extent does media influence our opinions, perspectives, and viewpoints,” it may take you a bit before you construct an answer. This is because it is an open ended question, and there are no right or wrong answers. What we know already is that media can change our opinions on anything in seconds flat. Take the recent scandal with the cell phone brand Huawei for example. After Meng Wanzou was arrested for violating the American sanctions regime, many people’s opinions of the brand shifted. This created a stronger bias between cell phone brands.
Aside from changing our opinions, media can influence how we function in everyday life. Personally, media has affected how I present myself. The way I dress, the music I listen to, essentially everything about myself has stemmed from the media in one way or another. Social media has also impacted the way I view the world and has shown me new ideologies that I have adopted. For example, my going vegetarian to improve my health and the environmental impact. As we are in the heart of the digital age, all of our news, new fads, and new products come from online. The internet is a place where everyone can express their beliefs and have it be accepted by at least 1 person. As a whole, the media is a very interesting subject to speak about. My answer to the question previously asked is, again, a matter of opinion and not entirely fact. Everyone’s interpretation of this subject will be inevitably different. We all have different thoughts on influencers and social media. I think everyone should take a little bit of time to think about how the media has impacted their lives. In most cases for the younger generation, it will be quite significant. You might be surprised with how it has affected you. --Angelina Robert, Musician & Artist |
